The northern and northeastern provinces will bear the brunt of the severe weather, with forecasts predicting violent thunderstorms, damaging gusts, and possible hailstorms through May 1. The turbulence stems from a high-pressure system extending from China over Vietnam and the South China Sea, which is clashing with southeasterly and southwesterly winds across upper Thailand. The collision of these systems, combined with the region’s extreme heat, creates ideal conditions for explosive storm development.

Conditions will worsen from April 28 as a westerly trough from Myanmar sweeps across the north and northeast, prolonging the threat of flash floods, downed power lines, and crop damage. While storm intensity may diminish slightly after May 1, residents can expect relentless heat interspersed with sudden, wind-driven thunderstorms.

In the southern regions, a separate weather pattern will unleash heavy rains from April 26–28, fueled by southeasterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand and strong westerlies in the Andaman Sea. Mariners are warned of 1-meter waves, surging to over 2 meters in storm zones. Though winds may ease slightly from April 29–May 2, isolated thunderstorms could still trigger dangerous, high waves.

Authorities urge residents to secure property, avoid open areas during storms, and monitor updates closely. The prolonged severe weather threatens travel disruptions, agricultural losses, and potential power outages, particularly in vulnerable northern and coastal areas.

“This is not just typical summer rain,” cautioned a department spokesperson. “The combination of extreme heat and converging wind systems makes these storms particularly unpredictable and hazardous.”
