The rider, identified only as Mr. Samir, a 23-year-old Tunisian national, was reportedly riding a motorbike in the wrong direction on the road. When traffic police officers signaled for him to stop, Samir allegedly ignored their instructions and accelerated at high speed, fleeing toward Patong. The police immediately initiated a pursuit to apprehend the rider, who was endangering both himself and other road users.
After a brief chase, Samir was successfully detained by the authorities, who was unable to present a valid driver’s license. The exact circumstances of his arrest, including whether any additional offenses were committed during the pursuit, have not yet been fully disclosed. However, the incident has raised concerns about road safety and compliance with traffic laws, particularly among foreign visitors in the popular tourist destination of Phuket.

Colonel Khundet emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, especially in areas with heavy tourist traffic like Karon and Patong. He also warned that such reckless behavior would not be tolerated and that strict legal action would be taken against those who violate traffic laws.
Samir is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to evading police, reckless driving, and potentially other traffic violations. The incident serves as a reminder to all road users, both local and foreign, to respect traffic rules and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure safety for everyone.
