The incident occurred around 1 pm as the vessel departed from Chalong Pier in Phuket’s Mueang district for a day trip to Racha Island. Approximately 1.6 nautical miles north of Racha Island, the catamaran began taking on water, leading to its sinking.

Nearby tourist boats and vessels responded promptly, rescuing all passengers and crew members from the sinking vessel. The swift action of these boats and adherence to safety protocols were instrumental in preventing casualties.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the sinking to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

It’s noteworthy that this event brings back memories of previous maritime accidents in the region, such as the tragic 2018 Phuket boat capsizing, which resulted in significant loss of life.
