“Iran has just launched unmanned aerial vehicles from its territory and towards the territory of the State of Israel,” said IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari. These drones have also been joined by cruise missiles, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has confirmed.

For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed immediately after the attack was confirmed that Israel is “prepared for any scenario” and warned that there will be a response. “Citizens of Israel. In recent years and even more so in recent weeks Israel has been preparing for the possibility of a direct attack from Iran,” he said.

“Our defensive systems are deployed. The State of Israel is strong. The Israel Defense Forces are strong and the people are strong,” he has said, while highlighting the backing of the United States. “We appreciate the U.S. support for Israel and also the support of the U.K., France and many other countries.”

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has released a message on social media vowing to “punish” Israel shortly after it was confirmed that dozens of drone strikes have been launched in retaliation for the bombing of the Iranian Consulate in Damascus.

Israeli media have reported that the drones are estimated to reach Israeli airspace around 2:00-3:00 a.m. and that the Israeli Armed Forces aim to shoot them down before they enter their airspace.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has reported in a statement the launching of “dozens” of drones and missiles against targets inside the “occupied territories”, in reference to Israel, to “punish the illegitimate and criminal regime”.

“The evil Zionist regime will be punished,” he posted on his official account on the social network X, next to a video in which Khamenei reproaches Israel for the bombing against the Consulate, stating that it was “a wrong move”, comparable to attacking on Iranian territory.

Both Iranian and Israeli authorities confirmed late Sunday the launching of dozens of drones against Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the emergency War Cabinet at midnight in the face of the ongoing drone and ballistic missile attack launched by Iran on Saturday.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is convening the War Management Cabinet in Kirya” in Tel Aviv, where the Army headquarters is located, his office said in a statement today.

The U.S. government has recalled that support for Israeli security is “ironclad” and that the U.S. will support Israel’s defense against “threats” from Iran, which has launched an attack with dozens of drones and missiles.

President Joe Biden is aware of the evolution of the situation and has already convened a meeting with his team at the White House, informed the spokeswoman of the National Security Council, Adrienne Watson, in a statement.
