Cambodian Rocket Fire Injures Seven in Thai Border Villages
SA KAEO – Heavy fighting along the Thai-Cambodian border escalated on Monday as Cambodian forces fired BM-21 rockets into Sa Kaeo province, injuring seven individuals and prompting a full-scale evacuation of local communities. The attack struck Ban Nong Samet, wounding one police officer and six civilians, according to local authorities.

In response to the intensifying violence, officials have ordered the complete evacuation of 19 villages in the area. The conflict, which reignited on December 8, shows no signs of abating, with warnings that hostilities are likely to expand further.
The Thai media report “exchange of fire” in the Sa Kaeo province and that Cambodian forces fired “heavy weapons”, ignited fires and damaged homes in the Khok Sung district.

The prolonged clashes have devastated the local economy. The once-bustling Rong Kluea Market now stands deserted, and numerous hotels have been forced to close their doors. Sa Kaeo is reported to be among the most severely impacted of Thailand’s seven border provinces, with cross-border trade and tourism grinding to a total halt.
