Bus Driver Killed, Dozens of Students Injured in Chonburi Motorway Crash

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. when the six-wheeled bus, traveling along the Hua Hin–Pranburi route, veered off the roadway. The collision with the power pole was severe enough to break the vehicle’s axle and detach a front wheel, scattering debris across the road. Rescue workers from the Sawang Hua Hin Thammasathan Foundation arrived to find the orange bus with significant front-end and left-side damage, resting on the roadside verge.

Inside the damaged vehicle, emergency personnel discovered a group of distressed male and female ROTC students. Eight students sustained minor injuries, including various cuts and bruises, and were promptly transported to Hua Hin Hospital for medical treatment.

The 75-year-old driver, Witthaya, who emerged from the accident unharmed, provided authorities with his account of the events. He explained that he had been transporting approximately twenty students back to their school in Hua Hin following a training session in Cha-am. While driving on the wet Cha-am–Pranburi bypass road, he was forced to brake suddenly to avoid a collision with a vehicle in front of him. The bus subsequently skidded on the slippery surface, left the roadway, and struck both a power pole and a parked backhoe.
