CHIANG MAI – A sudden flash flood at a popular waterfall in Chiang Mai province led to a dramatic rescue operation after 25 tourists were trapped by rapidly rising waters. The incident occurred at Mae Tia Waterfall within Ob Luang National Park, where continuous heavy rainfall caused a swift and dangerous surge in water levels.

The tourists, who had been camping near the scenic site, found themselves stranded as the intense current cut off their escape routes. Park authorities immediately mobilized a rescue team of 50 personnel who successfully evacuated all 25 individuals without serious injury.

In the aftermath of the emergency, Nipaporn Paisarn, Head of Ob Luang National Park, announced the temporary closure of Mae Tia Waterfall to all visitors. The precautionary measure was implemented to ensure public safety while park officials assess conditions and monitor weather patterns in the area.
