Thailand to Hold Four Merit-Making Ceremonies for Late Queen Mother
BANGKOK – The Ministry of Interior has directed all 76 provincial governors across Thailand to organize four official merit-making ceremonies in honor of the late Queen Mother, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The ceremonies will mark key traditional observance periods following her passing, with the first scheduled for tomorrow to commemorate the seventh day.

Subsequent ceremonies will be held on November 7, December 12, and January 31, corresponding to the 15th day, 50th day, and 100th day after her departure. Each province has been granted flexibility to design appropriate activities, which may include public space cleaning, hospital visits, reading for persons with disabilities, and other charitable acts.

Interior Permanent Secretary Orasit Samphantharat has called for public participation in tomorrow’s events, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. Civil servants, police, military personnel, and state enterprise employees are encouraged to wear white uniforms, while members of the public are asked to dress in respectful black attire.

In a related move, the Cabinet has established eight committees to oversee different aspects of the mourning period and royal funeral arrangements. These committees will manage areas including merit-making ceremonies, funeral processions, crematorium construction, maintenance of royal carriages, security, traffic control, commemorative publications, and the royal cremation ceremony itself. The coordinated efforts reflect the nation’s deep reverence for the beloved Queen Mother.
