Thailand Condemns Cambodia Over Landmine Blast That Injured Five Soldiers
Bangkok – Thailand has issued a stern rebuke to Cambodia following a landmine explosion that wounded five Thai soldiers along the contentious border in Ubon Ratchathani province. The Royal Thai Army denounced the incident as an “inhumane act” and accused Cambodian forces of secretly planting the explosive device on Thai soil.

The blast occurred around 4:55 PM on Wednesday in the Chong An Ma border zone of Nam Yuen District, where a patrol unit from the 14th Infantry Battalion triggered the mine. One soldier suffered severe leg injuries, while four others were hospitalized with blast-related symptoms, including chest pain and ringing in the ears.
In a sharply worded statement, the Thai military asserted that Cambodia had violated international humanitarian law by deploying landmines near the border, jeopardizing regional stability. The army has demanded accountability from Phnom Penh and vowed to escalate defensive measures under the “Chakraphong Phuwanat” contingency plan.

Army Chief General Pana Claewplodtook will visit the blast site Thursday to evaluate security protocols and meet with wounded personnel. The incident marks the latest flare-up in long-standing border tensions, where territorial disputes and sporadic clashes have persisted for decades.
Thailand has pledged to utilize all diplomatic and military channels to safeguard its borders, though it stopped short of detailing potential retaliatory actions. The explosion comes just weeks after another landmine incident in the same province, further straining relations between the neighboring nations.
