Thai Army Calls for Calm Amid Cambodian Long-range Rocket Threat
BANGKOK — The Royal Thai Army (RTA) has moved to reassure the public following unconfirmed reports that Cambodia may deploy long-range rocket systems capable of striking targets deep inside Thai territory. The potential threat, which could impact areas within a 130-kilometre radius, has sparked concern among residents in multiple northeastern provinces.

No Confirmed Deployment
Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvaree addressed growing anxiety on Monday, stating that intelligence about Cambodian PHL-03 rocket launcher deployments remains unverified. “There is currently no evidence of these systems being positioned or aimed at Thai territory,” he said, urging citizens to rely on official updates rather than social media speculation.
The clarification comes after warnings circulated online advising residents in Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Si Sa Ket, Buri Ram, and parts of Yasothon, Roi Et, Maha Sarakham, and Nakhon Ratchasima to stay vigilant.

Border Clashes Intensify
Tensions reached a new peak on Sunday when Cambodian forces fired BM-21 rockets into Thailand’s Surin province, damaging civilian infrastructure including homes and hospitals. In response, the Royal Thai Air Force conducted precision airstrikes using F-16 and Gripen fighter jets to destroy artillery emplacements near the contested Ta Kwai and Ta Muen Thom temple complexes.

While the army maintains robust air defense systems to intercept potential rocket attacks, officials emphasize that the situation remains fluid. Authorities continue to monitor Cambodian troop movements along the 800-kilometer frontier, where clashes have now entered their sixth consecutive day.
