Thai Government Urges Respectful Behavior During Songkran

BANGKOK (NBT WORLD) – As Songkran approaches, the government has called on all citizens to help promote Thailand’s cultural heritage and elevate the festival to global recognition. The aim is to foster national pride and generate tourism revenue, while preserving traditional values. Citizens are urged to behave appropriately, particularly in terms of dress and online behavior, to prevent acts of public indecency during the festivities.

Thailand Gears Up for Record-Breaking Songkran 2025

Authorities have specifically warned against wearing sexually provocative clothing during water-related activities and sharing explicit images or videos online. Those who post or share such content may face prosecution under the Computer Crime Act, which carries penalties of up to five years in prison, a fine of up to 100,000 baht, or both. Individuals appearing in these images or videos could also face charges for committing acts of public indecency.
