Thailand to receive multi-million dollar fund from international filmmakers this year

Thailand has earned $38.5 million in the first four months of 2021 from film productions by international companies in the country, despite the complicated COVID-19 development.

Thailand’s Department of Tourism estimates that by the end of this year, total revenue from international film shoots would amount to nearly $100 million. It also urged the government to pay greater attention to this source of revenue.

As Thailand relaxed COVID pandemic prevention measures, 31 international production crews arrived in the nation in the January-April period, mainly from China, India, the United Kingdom, the United States and South Korea.

In 2020, the number was 126, generating more than $54 million for the country, a sharp drop from the 740 production teams and $153.7 million recorded in 2019.

The Entertainment Industry Department also advised that they are initiating a promotion program to attract more international filmmakers to Thailand.
