A 38-year-old Sattahip bar owner was arrested for pimping a 16-year-old bargirl.
The girl was a new employee from Chanthaburi province who wanted to send money back home, so she readily agreed to sell her sexual services, the mamasan said.
SATTAHIP – February 20, 2013, at 12:10 a.m., an order was given to conduct a undercover police “sting” operation at a karaoke bar suspected of employing an underage prostitute by Pol. Lt. Gen. Vinai Thongsong, Commissioner, section 2.
Leading the undercover operation were Pol. Maj. Gen. Kosol Phuavech, Deputy Commissioner, section 2; Pol. Col. Saipech Seesang, Deputy Commander, Chonburi province; and Pol. Col. Ronnachai Jindamook, Superintendent; who mobilized the forces of the police team under the supervision of Pol. Lt. Col. Kamol Thaweesri.
The lure purchase of sexual services of the underage girl took place at the Kig Karaoke bar at 37/610 Aekthani market, km.10 Moo1 Tambon Phlutaluang, Amphur Sattahip.
Police were responding to complaints that the owner of the shop had brought a girl age under 18 to sell sexual services to customers. So the police made the plan to do the lure purchase of sexual services by contacting Mrs. Amphai Desilva, age 38, the shop owner, who is from Tambon Nong Phai, Amphur Meuang Chaiyaphum, Chaiyaphum province.
The police offered to pay 1,300 THB to Mrs. Amphai for the sexual services of the bargirl. The mamasan then brought “Ms. A” (alias), age 16, a “good-looking” girl from Chanthaburi province. After the officer paid the mamasan, he then arrested her.
During questioning, Mrs. Amphai said that the bargirl had only started work two days ago, to sit and drink liquor with customers. But Ms. Amphai knew that the girl wanted to earn money to send back to her home town. So she told the girl she could earn money easily by selling sexual services for 1,300 THB each time. The bar would deduct 300 THB, and the girl would keep the rest.
Pol. Lt. Col. Kamol Thaweesri said that the police had received a complaint from the Royal Thai Police that the Kig Karaoke bar in Aekthani market had deceived a teenage girl age under 18 to sell sexual services. So the police made plan to do the lure purchase, and then arrested the mamasan and detained the underage girl.
The officers sent the girl to the care of the Shelter for Children and Women, and will contact her parents to pick her up.
Meanwhile, the mamasan bar owner was sent to the investigation officer of Phlutaluang police station. She will be prosecuted in an accusation of opening a karaoke bar without a permit; and also for arranging, deceiving or taking a person under age 18 to sell her sexual services, whether that person consented or not.
