Thai Navy purchases nine Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM) from U.S.

BANGKOK, 15 January 2013 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Navy has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance with the U.S. government to purchase nine missiles in a bid to improve Thailand’s ship self-defense capability.

The Royal Thai Navy has purchased nine Evolved Sea Sparrow Missiles (ESSM) from US defense manufacturer Raytheon for use on its two Naresuan frigates. The two ships are currently undergoing overhauls and upgrades.

The inking of the agreement has increased the global ESSM user community to 13 nations.
