BANGKOK, 13 November 2012 (NNT) – Safety measures, which include pier renovation projects and anti-drinking campaigns, have been planned ahead of this year’s Loy Kratong Festival.

Deputy Permanent Secretary Sanya Sheenimit of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said City Hall has held talks on safety and health provisions during the festive season with Metropolitan Police, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and other related agencies.

The BMA plans to inspect over 100 piers along canals and the Chaopraya River while carrying out repairs on damaged structures. Other agencies will closely monitor the sale of fireworks and the preparation of materials for use on kratongs. This year, the BMA will stage a Loy Kratong Festival at a public park near Rama VIII Bridge.
