Thai Police Step Up Vigilance After Rape Attempt Of Tourist

The Royal Thai Police announced new security measures, after an Israeli tourist was nearly raped by a Burmese immigrant during a Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan Island.

The preventive measures will be centered around tourist areas in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Surat Thani.

In response to tourist safety concerns, including a high-profile case in November 2012 involving a Dutch woman in Ao Nang, Thai police were criticized for their handling of the initial investigation. This led to calls for greater accountability and improved procedures in handling crimes against foreign nationals.
