World IPv6 launch to upgrade global internet services

BANGKOK, 6 June 2012 (NNT) – The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has insisted that the country’s participation in World IPv6 launch will not affect web services.

ICT Minister Anudith Nakornthap said that today marks an important day for the IT industry as major Internet service providers (ISPs), home networking equipment manufacturers, and web companies around the world are uniting to permanently enable Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for their products, as a successor to the current Internet Protocol, IPv4.

The World IPv6 Launch, a global-scale test flight of IPv6, was initiated as IPv4 address space is currently running out, threatening the security of global web services. The adoption of IPv6, which provides over 4 billion times more space, will guarantee online functionality for Internet users worldwide for the next 40-50 years.

The ICT Minister elaborated that the ministry is cooperating with the nation’s internet providers and communications agencies to ensure a smooth transition from IPv4 to IPv6. The event, he added, is a critical point in the Internet’s continued growth as a platform for innovation.

Additionally, he confirmed that internet users in the country should be able to access online services during the launch without any interruption.
