Thai Police shot a man on Wednesday evening, suspected of escaping custody in March as he attempted to escape capture for a second time close to the Sukhumvit Road in Central Pattaya.

The case began in Soi Sukhumvit 49 where Police surrounded a house believed to be occupied by the fugitive Khun Wirayoot aged 18, who is reportedly part of a well known gang who conduct necklace and bag snatches in the East Pattaya area. Police moved in and the suspect attempted to leave in a pick-up but he crashed into a wall and was forced to run away on foot. As he left, he produced a gun and shot in the direction of Police.

The target ran onto the Sukhumvit Road and toward the Tesco-Lotus Store in the next Soi. He did attempt to steal a motorbike belonging to a foreigner but this was unsuccessful. He then approached the owner of a White Honda Click, Khun Inlipat aged 25. At gunpoint he forced her off her bike and Khun Wirayoot then attempted to escape. At this point, Police had caught up with him and one of the officers shot him in the face.

The suspect was rushed to Hospital and he remains in a critical condition. The incident was initially overseen by Police Colonel Somnook who was quickly on-scene to take control of the chaotic scenes which followed the shooting which is now under investigation by the Police. The suspects gun and waist-bag containing bullets, a gold necklace and some money were taken into evidence.
