CHIANG MAI, 23 March 2012 (NNT) – Thai AirAsia is launching new daily direct flights from Chiang Mai to Macau, with the inaugural flight set to commence on May 22.
Chief Executive Tassapon Bijleveld, Chiang Mai governor ML Panadda Diskul and Consul General Zhu Weimin presided over a ceremony in Chiang Mai to launch the airline’s new direct route to Macau.

Mr Tassapon said the new route will allow Chiang Mai business operators to establish a larger presence in the Chinese market and to boost the Thai economy.
Macau is one of Asia’s most popular tourist destinations with over 23 million visitors annually and is only an hour away by ferry from Hong Kong. Mainland Chinese tourists make up 50% of the total number of visitors.
He added that the airline has received over 4,000 advance flight bookings so far.
