Chaiyaphum, Thailand was inundated after three hours of heavy rain early yesterday triggered flash floods, forcing the closure of seven schools and many government offices.

Spillover from a tributary of the Chi River, which originates in Nong Bua Daeng district, flooded five districts. A major reservoir near Phu Lan Kha Mountain and Lam Pa Thao Dam was also brimming, and heavy rain was reported in all 16 districts.

The provincial general hospital is setting up embankments, readying water pumps and preparing for evacuation in case of emergency. Four hospital branches should be ready soon to serve patients in case the area is flooded.
