BANGKOK, 2 August 2011 (NNT) – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Consumer Protection Police Division have arrested vendors selling fake sex enhancement drugs around Sukhumvit and Khlong Toei areas. The FDA warned anyone not to take those drugs as their lives could be at risk.
Vendors were reportedly found to have been selling sex boosters to foreigners on the sides of Chueng Charoen Phanit and Charoen Krung Roads. According to the report, the drugs were sold in plain sight to passers-by without fear of the law. The FDA said not only this dangerous business had shed some negative light on Thailand but the effects on those who take them would be fatal particularly to people with heart and blood vessel related diseases.
Police have sized various items such as sex toys and hallucination drugs which are worth 500,000 THB. Vendors have been arrested for selling these items without a license. They are due to serve a jail term of no more than 5 years or pay a 10,000 THB fine or both. They are also being charged with selling unregistered drugs and narcotics in which a fine of 5,000 THB and 100,000 THB will be applied or jail terms of no more than 3 and 5 years respectively.
On the sales of fake drug charges, a perpetrator could face a jail term of 1-20 years with a fine of 2,000-10,000 THB. Meanwhile, a jail term of a maximum of 3 years and a fine of no higher than 60,000 THB would be forced upon those who sold drug induced hallucinations.
