PHUKET: A hotel cook drowned last night at Nong Harn Lake, at the northern end of Phuket’s tourist-popular Karon Beach, sparking a three-hour search for his body.

Kasin Wirachod, 41, was a cook at a prominent hotel in Karon who supplemented his income by catching fish in the lake, an old tin mine quarry surrounded by resorts and restaurants.

Mr Kasin, originally from Sakon Nakhon, was setting nets with a friend – identified only as “Dum” – at about 7pm.
