Kasit dismisses embassy closure, visa issue rumors
BANGKOK, 21 September 2010 (NNT) – Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya has dismissed the news reports about the closure of the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Thailand as well as refusal to approve visas for Thai Muslims aiming to participate the Hajj pilgrimage.
Speaking in the US during his mission to attend the UN General Assembly, the Minister refuted all the rumors about embassy closure and visa service suspension revealed by some political figures. He said misunderstandings might occur in official level.
Mr Kasit added that he on Monday night had already phoned Saudi Arabian Charge d’Affaires to Thailand Nabil H Ashri, who also dismissed such news reports. He believed that problems occurred because some people wanted to use the situation for their political motive.
