BMA braces for possible earthquake in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 18 April 2012 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is gearing up for any possible earthquake which might strike the Thai capital with an action plan while announcing the organization of a talk on how to create a paradise Bangkok later this month.

Following the frequent tremors during the past week as well as a potential tsunami threat, Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paripatra said he has ordered the BMA to establish an earthquake action plan, which will be taken in case of emergency. Since 4.7 squared kilometers of Bangkok is connected to the sea, a number of old commercial building structures will be severely impacted if a tsunami were to occur in a nearby province However, he holds no concern for newly-constructed buildings given most are equipped with safety measures for natural disasters.

Additionally, the BMA, in collaboration with the Association of Siam Architects (ASA) under Royal Patronage, will hold a talk on the path towards a heavenly Bangkok in the Architect Expo 2012, to be held at Muangthong Thani during 24-25 April, in order to acquire the cooperation and support from experts in the field in creating a heavenly and sustainable Bangkok. Participants of the event will also receive basic grounding on the design, construction, modification, extension and demolition of houses, as well as relevant legislation for the safety and happiness of the residents in the Thai capital.
