BANGKOK, 11 January 2012 (NNT) – President of the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) Akapol Sorasuchart stated that the TCEB is currently pursuing its plans to promote Thailand’s bid to host the “World Expo 2020”.
As part of its marketing campaign, the TCEB has spent a budget of 30 million baht to set up a pavilion at the BOI Fair during 5-20 January at Muang Thong Thani in order to educate the public about the country’s attempt to bid for the Expo in 2020. The pavilion is expected to draw more than 100,000 visitors. Furthermore, Thailand will host an International Rotary Convention in May, during which the Secretary General of the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE), which oversees the selection of the host country, is also expected to join. Mr. Akapol stated that this will be a great opportunity for Thailand to manifest its potentials as a possible host to the World Expo 2020. The TCEB has only one year left to educate the public and encourage them to support the bid before the result of the host country is announced in November 2013.
The TCEB has proposed a budget of around 300 million baht for this bid attempt; however, the budget has been cut to help relieve flood victims. Nevertheless, he expects that the budget for the 2013 promotional campaigns may increase as the judgment date is quickly approaching. He is confident that Thailand, under the main concept of “Balanced Life Sustainable Living”, has a positive chance to win against its 4 competitors.
