BANGKOK, 28 Janaury 2011 (NNT)-Marine experts have recently congregated at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre to brainstorm for coral reef bleaching solutions, expecting to propose them to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva for consideration as soon as next month.
A biology lecturer from the Faculty of Science, Prince of Songkhla University, Sakanand Plathong, said the meeting has concluded that there are a few important steps to tackling the problem which include soil erosion prevention, waste water treatments, law enforcement and public knowledge of the current situation on marine eco-system. The draft on solutions and preventions will be proposed to the Prime Minister on 1 February.
Meanwhile, Mr. Songtham Sooksawang, Director of Research Division, Department of National. Park Wildlife and Plants proposed that national parks in Thailand should collect fees from visitors to cover all maintenance costs. He added 30-40% of the revenue should be used to fund a research to promote sustainable eco-tourism in the future.
