Anti-AIDS campaigns held throughout Thailand

BANGKOK, 1 December 2010 (NNT) – As December 1st. has been designated the World Aids Day, several events aimed at raising awareness of the danger of Aids were held throughout Thailand today.

Highlighting the events held nationwide were demonstrations on how to use condoms; the demonstrations were aimed at urging Thais to have safe sex in order to keep the deadly Aids virus at bay. The event was organized under the title “Talking Sex; HIV is a-100 % preventable disease.” The main target groups of these campaigns were those vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases, teenagers, gays, prostitutes, illegal immigrants, and drug addicts. Free condoms were also distributed to the public.

In Samutsongkram Province, the Teen Center still played its role in educating Thai youths on the preventive measures for HIV. The center also warned parents and guardians to look after their kids to make sure that they know how to take care of themselves.

Leaflets on HIV preventive measures were handed also out to the people in Kanchanaburi province in an attempt to inform them of ways to prevent contracting the disease.
